Hey Brian!

Well I sure am thankful that you commented here! Speaking of okra, a lady that buys eggs from us, who is originally from Georgia, brought us some okra the other day when she came for eggs! So we had us a treat :)

Last evening the evening was devoted to the calling that is pulling me. I found out that it has been very well accepted by the church organization that our little church belongs to, which truthfully surprised me.

As the weeks and months go by I will try and write about all of this. There's so much to do, its really unlimited. And I am so thankful that the post touched you a bit! Humbling for me.

God Bless!

Tom,
I have followed your writings for a few weeks now. I came here through JC Smith's American Pentecost. As I live in the middle of a 48 acre hayfield in southern Georgia I can empathise with you. Cannot sympathise as I do not grow anything more than some okra and cukes and maters....(my son rasied a hog for 4h this past year and it's pen is veeeerrrry fertile!!

Anyway, I have been a preacher, evangelist, ordained minister, revivalist amongst husband, father and friend. The reason I am commenting is that for years I have been traveling down roads here in georgia and other southern states (originally from Wisconsin) and there are churches on so many corners in the cities. Then in the rural areas they are everywhere. I have often wondered about this end times revival and gathering/harvest and how these smaller churches would be reached...Your post hit me with a holy 2x4.

Now I am not feeling this calling as of yet but I will agree with your description and yearning in your heart. The one thing I am sure of is that I will hear Him and go and do. Doing, saying and going on ly where Father says. Repentance preaching with Wigglesworth healing is my heart cry. And in the waiting for His release you have added another aspect of the completed vessel Father is refining.

Bless you my brother and I echo Brad's sentiments: "your time on the computer is not wasted". You are giveing cups of cold water even unto the least of these.

Hmm Brent,
I gotta think about favorite books and you might be in the running for the Sheffey book that me, Brad and Jan talk about! Might as well make that circuit rider book ride the circuit eh :) Another favorite is the one Brad and I have referred to many times in the past called, "The Time It Never Rained", and excellent book of endurance in ranching in central Texas. That can usually be ordered from a local library but if you can't find it I can loan you my copy. I highly recommend it! I'll see what I can come up with as far as books of faith, I have quite a library but don't know where to start!
If I ever head that way, which ain't to likely, I'll let you know so your daughter can bake up some of that bread!!

Getting caught up on the comments here. How about a favorite book list Tom? I forget the titles that you mention and sometimes it takes me a while to dig the books up. I'm at work this morning, tired and sore, shoveled and pitched about 8 tons of manure pack out of the cattle shed into the spreader (don't have a skidsteer and the tractor and bucket can't get in there). The weathers been good, got some hay down, both the oats and the peas look good, the corn and soybeans are going to be a total loss! FSA is forcing us to sell 2/3 of the herd (reorganization) and we've got $20 to get thru the week on. But, God is good to us, my daughter makes the best bread around, the garden is looking pretty nice and a kitten came running to me in the barn this morning to get picked up, all I lack is a really good church fellowship, but the Lord will provide!

Morning Brad!
Ah, the day after the day after, had me a good sleep and all and I was hoping to cut some hay today. Was hoping to cut hay yesterday too but was too wet and I didn't want to be cutting two miles from home with possible thunderstorms popping up. I don't like lightening.
I know, that Sheffey book is quite the read plus all the historical stuff thrown in to boot, good reading and I know that's on my top five list for this lifetime! It came n kinda handy too on Wednesday night cause I talked about the book too and some of his adventures. One thing struck me, how ministry is life, not a sideline.
I'm so happy to hear all is going well with your boy and I figure if its time to get the true confessions out, well, so much the better. But better not let him know how much he gabbed while under the influelce, might cause some trauma that ain't needed now :)
I know I've calmed down a bit on Northern Farmer but its really hard to rant as much as I did back then. I know it draws readers but I made to many mistakes in the rants and figured I'd better learn a little more about what I'm ranting about :) Its all there yet and when the time comes it'll cut loose when need be.
Oh boy, busy here this morning, gotta get over to Northern Farmer and comment, but might not make it at the moment. If Brent is around reading this, I should make it over that way sometime today, my apologies for no time right now. I'm getting lazier and slept in till almost five this morning and am running out of time. Kinda interesting over there and I do want to take care of it pronto.
So, here's praying for some rain down your way, and for dry weather for Brent so he can get some quality hay put up! Ah, I look forward to this weekend at church, I'm gonna sit in the back row and just enjoy life, ain't doing nothing :), I hope.

Morning Tom,

Glad you made it!! Sounds like what I do when I have to get up in front of people. I go off sounding like an auctioneer. Cept I usually finish the thing at the same speed. Everones happy because we finished up early. I'm happy because those sweat stains haven't shown through my shirt yet :)

Well I finished that Sheffey book. It was a good one. Probably the best thinkin book I've read in a while. I can't believe I finished it so fast, but I couldn't put it down. I'll tell you, there were some brave men in those times. I got to hand it to him, he was definately one of them. I'm not sure I could stand there and get beat half to death without stupid human pride gettin in the way. In fact I know I couldn't. Anger would just well up. It takes a special courage to turn the other cheek like he did.

Well, son's surgery was a success. We had the best talk in years coming home. Nothing like a little medicine that makes you loopy to open up an 18 y/o. He wanted to talk about everything under the sun. I'll check today to see if he remembers any of it :)

You know I might of said this before, but your time on the computer is well spent. That Northern Farmer blog is a good one. I remember first coming over becuse I was looking for info on OP corn. Well I started reading that ol fire and brimstone stuff and I was hooked (you've calmed down since then..... :) ). I'm sure it gets alot of people thinking. It sure does me. Kind of the way a modern day circuit rider might do it... all from the comfort of you cool damp basement..... If you go off and name you computer Gideon or anything like that though we might have to look at sizing you up for a jacket with no arms........

Well, I better git. I've got to watch my garden and pastures turn into dust :( . No rain yet..... year 3.

Have a GREAT day,

Brad

Well Brad,
I made it, whew! The "only" goal was simple survival, nothing more, and it made it all the way through, Praise the Lord!! I know I was monotone and kinda boring but that don't bother me much compared to if I'da stalled out. It lasted forty five minutes and I was five minutes into the thing and realized I had went through at least one third of my stuff already and had to adapt fast to extend it till at least eight. So I did what I always do, go off on side subjects but was worried if I could find my way back again to the main subject, (what ever that was), but it did work. Now that's under the belt and I'm sure it will be tucked away and forgotten and they'll leave old Tom alone and I can teach in the double wide forever and ever and never have any worries again :)

Morning Brad!

I'm praising the Lord your boy will be alright. I'd like to go a few days without worrying about folks that are close to me. Even if I don't know him personally its still extended family just from you being here daily.

I know where your coming from on the Sheffey thing. I had the same gut thoughts. But that's because of pride i guess. I don't know how I'd react if someone ever took over my work and freed me up to do the Lords work. Even these last few years its been a large burden sometimes doing what I do here and there and also on the computer, and still going full tilt farming. Never get a dime to help out with the Lord's work and probably never will. Last year when the computer went kaput I wasn't going to get another one. One must admit it is a rather large expense. Not only the cost of the thing but also the monthly internet bills. There's nobody to give a hand paying for anything and its hard to justify it to our family when times are lean, and times sure do get lean sometimes. Then there's the lost time of posting some evenings while I could be working or something. Makes me feel like a lazy sloth once in a while. Is it worth it? I don't know, I'll find out at the judgment if I was doing the Lord's work in this or just flat out wasting time. Worries me some, I just don't know. But I do know that in the past few years from e-mails that quite a few folks were convicted and turned to the Lord after reading for a time. I don't know how, but they were. Most of the time I get an e-mail when I'm feeling guilty and ready to quit on the computer, then there comes an e-mail telling about how their life totally changed and they got themselves born again and are going to a little church and all of that so I just nod my head and say, "OK Lord, I'll keep on making a total fool out of myself and keep going."
Sometimes even family start looking at me strange because of the computer, wondering why I spend time on it instead of being normal and watching TV or going shopping like "good" people do. Friends will tell me, " I don't have time to be on the computer", but then will go and see every movie that comes out, buy big screen TVs and sit on their butts for countless hours filling themselves with the world but always figuring they ain't wasting time like old Tom on the computer. Oh well, I can start to understand Sheffey's feelings now, he was driven to do the Lord's work and he sure did follow the Lord. The other folks having to take care of his farm and family I do believe were a tremendous guilt and burden to him. But he followed the Lord through it all.

Ouch, the back thingy sure hits home! Mine has been OK for a few weeks now. Musta been all that haymaking and sitting on the tractor that finally let it get better. Thank God for large round bales :)

Its kinda like a paradise here after the Saturday rain! The corn is so high that if that would be all we get I'd have enough already. but its growing and growing! The Goliath has me a tad bit worried, like how do I chop that stuff. Its getting big, but problems like that are music to my ears.

I'd better get going now, big, big day. Normal work, (I hope), and then church tonight, (gulp), and we'll see if I'm still a member tomorrow :)

Morning Brad!

I’m praising the Lord your boy will be alright. I’d like to go a few days without worrying about folks that are close to me. Even if I don’t know him personally its still extended family just from you being here daily.

I know where your coming from on the Sheffey thing. I had the same gut thoughts. But that’s because of pride i guess. I don’t know how I’d react if someone ever took over my work and freed me up to do the Lords work. Even these last few years its been a large burden sometimes doing what I do here and there and also on the computer, and still going full tilt farming. Never get a dime to help out with the Lord’s work and probably never will. Last year when the computer went kaput I wasn’t going to get another one. One must admit it is a rather large expense. Not only the cost of the thing but also the monthly internet bills. There’s nobody to give a hand paying for anything and its hard to justify it to our family when times are lean, and times sure do get lean sometimes. Then there’s the lost time of posting some evenings while I could be working or something. Makes me feel like a lazy sloth once in a while. Is it worth it? I don’t know, I’ll find out at the judgment if I was doing the Lord’s work in this or just flat out wasting time. Worries me some, I just don’t know. But I do know that in the past few years from e-mails that quite a few folks were convicted and turned to the Lord after reading for a time. I don’t know how, but they were. Most of the time I get an e-mail when I’m feeling guilty and ready to quit on the computer, then there comes an e-mail telling about how their life totally changed and they got themselves born again and are going to a little church and all of that so I just nod my head and say, “OK Lord, I’ll keep on making a total fool out of myself and keep going.”
Sometimes even family start looking at me strange because of the computer, wondering why I spend time on it instead of being normal and watching TV or going shopping like “good” people do. Friends will tell me, ” I don’t have time to be on the computer”, but then will go and see every movie that comes out, buy big screen TVs and sit on their butts for countless hours filling themselves with the world but always figuring they ain’t wasting time like old Tom on the computer. Oh well, I can start to understand Sheffey’s feelings now, he was driven to do the Lord’s work and he sure did follow the Lord.

Morning Tom,

Surgery was rescheduled for tomorrow. The boys fine, doctors said he should be able to use his hand alright. Just might have a problem with airport metal detectors.

You know I read this post and had a huge amount of thoughts on it. Kind of got distracted, but between your scripture quote, the "comparison" of the ol boy building more barns for his wheat, and ol Sheffey has got me thinking alot on this lately. Its tough!! I mean while I was tearing off porch roof tin, I was thinking about being in ol Sheffeys shoes. Would I be able to do it? Would I want to do it? I came up with a huge NO!! Not because of his calling. I think thats right on, but because of his reliance on others for getting by. Now he looked at it like the Lord providing and providing he did for 50 or so years, but I guess ol human pride gets in my way. Then I realized the Lord provides by making some the givers and some the takers. Like the ol coffin maker near the end of the book. A good Christian man who made his living for his family and took in the ol circuit rider too. I dunno the answer yet to all this. Probably won't know until the second coming, but I'll just guess my way through and hope its right.

Alright, if you understand all that rambling your a better man than me. Looking back at it, its kind of like cyber-tongues :)

Well, I threw my back out sitting. This gettin old is gettin old. Sitting on the roof I was redecking , taking a break and all of a sudden my back went wild. Well its not like we've had alot or rain, but if I didn't finish the roof I'm sure we'd get one, so alot of grunting and groaning over the last two days.

Speaking of rain. We've made it to the severe drought stage again. Spring was alot better this year, but now we're bone dry. My well went dry at the farmhouse, so I've had to start trucking water there for now. That well didn't go dry at all last year. I'm glad your out of this mess, but it sure looks like were in it for another year.

Well, I've about covered everything. Thanks for the prayers. I'll let you know how the ol surgery went.

Have a GREAT day,
