Easter Evening

Easter evening here and I wrote a post on Northern Farmer a bit ago. Since writing that I’ve completed three lessons in the Walking With Jesus series and want to do one more tonight. As long as I’m stuck in the house with the weather I want to really pour on the coals, get as many lessons done as possible because these free evenings are swiftly coming to an end soon. About all I can do tonight is praise the Lord for His goodness and His watching over us, basically what I wrote on NF blog.

Gotta butcher two steers tomorrow morning and what happens after that I have no idea. But something will that’s for sure. This Wednesday night things will return to normal and I’ll be heading back to children’s church and doing whatever I do there. I really enjoy those kids as of late, might be because I have an idea on what I’m doing. Makes a difference. We’ll be continuing about the gospels and that can really be easy with all this studying that I’ve been doing. Not much need to figure out what I’ll teach before hand, it just comes! Its almost like there’s never enough time in there, can’t even begin to cover what I want to get across, but what gets across has been sticking in them kid’s hearts and that’s what’s important.

So off I go again upstairs and try and complete one more lesson tonight!

  1. Morning,

Well, we had a good Easter. This is one of three times of the year the wife doesn’t keep me on a cholesterol count. One of these days, I’m gonna go to the doctor to see what my cholesterol really is. Of course that might take away all her fun…..

Busy around here lately. I’ve got one more 6 foot pile of manure to move out of the barnyard and into the fields. Now we don’t have one of those fancy smancy manure spreaders you know, we just use the loader and dump the stuff on a spike toothed harrow. Does a pretty good job too. If you ever want to see rednecks in action just come on down :)

Have to plow the wifes garden tonight. I do enjoy that. It’ll be all I use the plow for this year.

I haven’t heard back from the pillar of truth yet about the bible studies. I’m in no hurry really right now because I’m going pretty hot and heavy this time of year. In about a month I’ll have some time again while I’m waiting for the grass to grow.

Well, better git on with the day. Never know what I’ll find to do.

    Have a GREAT day,

    Brad

  2. Morning Brad!
Oh it just gets me reading about your jobs down there where the weather is nice to people! Here its the same ol’ stuff. Snow and mud, mud and snow, but the weather is kinda stagnant now, I just wished it would hurry up and get to be spring here!

At Pillar of Truth the main people are busy right now, he’s in the hospital in emergency and his wife stays with him. So sometimes it slows down a bit, but once those folks have a moment, (his wife I mean), she’ll get you in and then it runs very smooth. I was just reading on their forum how it turned to the worst for them these last couple of days. Today I’ll be saying some prayers for them folks, because you know, as far as I’m concerned they have one of the best ministries on the internet. So don’t get discouraged, you’ll get in on way or another. Keep me informed and I’ll make sure you get in, because those folks are a durn good bunch of folks!

Don’t know what I’ll do today, to wet to haul manure, to muddy to do much without destroying all the ground around it, that time of the year.

Hmm, I just got an idea. I’ll see if I could e-mail you some of the first lessons then you could print them out and work on them. After things get straightened out and your a student, you’ll already have a few lessons ready to go and complete online and zap them in. You game?? That way you could at least get a taste and they are good lessons. And the only work for me is clicking the mouse :)

Well, had better finish up this breakfast, slurp another cup down and get!

    God Bless!

  3. Sounds good Tom. If you could email them to bachelorb at bellsouth.net .
    Click away….. thanks

  4. OK Brad!

It’s a done deal! You already should have your first one.

  5. Morning Tom,

Thanks, got my first lesson and started it anyways. I wasn’t so sure about the KJV in all this, but now that I’m doing it, I think its a good thing. Anytime I don’t know what something is like “afirmment”, I go to the NIV and look it up. Seems like I get alot more out of the lessons that way. Even order was giving me problems. The KJV kept me wondering if it was like the third day or the fourth. NIV straightened me right out.
Confusion is something I live with constantly, so its no big deal :)

Oh I remember mud season up in Michigan. I’ll tell you, I love the last half of the spring and summer in the north, but sinking up to my calf in mud is not one of my favorite memories. Good thing there isn’t a mud season here. This clay gets slicker than fresh manure on ice if it gets too much rain.

The garden is plowed. I’ll tell you it was a little funny out there yesterday. I’m on my 58 y/o tractor with an even older 2 bottom, and not 100 feet from me is a guy on a new tractor and a zillion row air seeder. They were planting cotton behind the house yesterday (I’m assuming its cotton, the corn, wheat, and soybean craze has reached the deep south too). I was just there puttin’ along.

Well, had most of the machinery fixed. Seems an alternator went bad on me. Belts fine, but nothin as far as voltage. Durn, I hate it when that happens. I’m not sure if I should chalk this up to a last season breakdown, or the first one of the season…. Probably change that out tonight.

Well, time to move on and start getting at it. I’m gonna try to finish up the first lesson tonight. Thanks again for sending them my way.

    Have a GREAT day,

    Brad

  6. Morning Brad!

I’ll send you a few more lessons so you can have a jump start when Pillar of Truth can get back to you on the courses. I’ll zap em in late afternoon. I was going to last evening but them seen you made it to the forum over that way and I figured I’d wait and see if you were officially enrolled. But until then I can help you get stared. I know how it was waiting, I waited a long time for my lessons. But once in everything is quick and very good. I just pray that the leading pastor and his wife get through their troubles alright. Its tough being in the hospital so long.

I use two Bibles too! I do 99% of the work out of the King James and when I get confused I have an Amplified Bible right handy. Funny how certain KJV verses can make absolutely no sense to the modern English mind and a different Bible can tell you flat out what the verse means. For myself its been incredible, the learning I mean, what were once almost dull verses are now full of meaning!

As far as blogging goes I’m in kinda a rut lately, the reason, mud season and winter still having its grips in us around here. Its always the same old stuff and I need some firm ground and some real farm jobs to spark me off! This has been the longest winter in many years for me, good thing there is such a thing as faith, or I’d be in big trouble!

But I believe this is going to be a good year, just feel it in my bones! Just that gut feeling, and you know how they always say that its darkest before the dawn, well I think that’s what’s been happening around here. And I’m ready to hit er hard come planting season. Oh, just to dream of being in a beautiful field planting oats, hays, and corn, well a guy can dream eh :)

So off to another day here, should be below freezing for a few hours so I can feed hay on hard ground, sure beats slime ground, and then who knows what I’ll do!

    God Bless!

  7. Morning Tom,

Hmmmmm…. Thanks for the emails :)

Well, good news yesterday. Seems I’m not out a $50 alternator at all. It just wasn’t getting excited…… Now even my alternators are complaining that I’m boring :) . Well, once I found out it was a three wire rather than a one wire, I went to Brad’s raggely box of electrical stuff that was in my shop and fixed it for about a nickle.

Spreading more manure tonight, then believe it or not, my big spring push is pretty much over. No corn to go in or anything this year. With the cost of fertilizer and all, I’m going to try more rotational grazing and less fertilizer. I heard even roundup went up triple in price. I have a feeling with the economy and all, the cattle business might be a little slim for a couple of years. Could be the farm paranoia sittin in though…..

Weather here has been great for working, but its been 6 days with no rain and I’m starting to get worried again. Supposed to be some this weekend, but we’re still five inches low for the year. I was thinkin this drought might be over, but maybe not. Could be the farm paranoia sittin in though…… :)

Well, better get at it. I heard on the radio that your getting pretty near spring up there. About time for your world to go crazy eh??

    Have a GREAT day,

    Brad

  8. Morning Brad!

I just got done e-mailing you and now my typing fingers are tiring out :) Farm paranoia? Heck, that’s just my old moonshining genes showing through, living under the radar type stuff! Of course I’m on the straight and narrow these days, (cough), and I’m really a goody two shoes and all of that.

Hmm, yup the raw material for Roundup must have skyrocketed eh, what a joke. Grr, money grubbers! Oh well, don’t use it anyhow around here, but I can’t believe how farmers are being taken for a ride by those companies! But I’d better save all of that for Northern Farmer and stay peaceable around here.

So I’d better git, all typed out, wow, busy morning so far and I haven’t finished my coffee yet.

    God Bless!

  9. checking in ;)

  10. Morning Jan, Morning Tom,

Chance of showers here today, temps in the mid-70’s. Its starting to stay above 50 at night now, so the grass should really start coming in. Yipee.

Looks like some more equipment might be headed to the farm. Yep about to make another new purchase… Well, it would have been new when my grandpa was a boy. I decided that two raggely ol sickle mowers might get through the hay season better than one. I’m not sure one of the bearings is going to hold up on the ol McCorminck Deering. Looking at an old New Idea trailer mower. It’ll work with all my older tractors too. The ol powertrol with the 3 point hitch that I made for the B has been getting pretty tired acting lately.

Nothing much new here. Spread manure the redneck way again last night and got that finished. I might look for an ol ground driven manure spreader this summer to. One can never have too much equipment that only gets used two or three times a year :)

Well, the Genesis lesson is coming along slowly but surely. I think I’ll probably only end up getting one lesson done a week. With it stayin light until 7, by the time I get home and eat, its time for bed. Thats alright this ol brain probably couldn’t handle much more studyin than that anyway.

Glad you came in Jan, Toms alright, but you sure do brighten up the place :)

Well, better git and git going. I hope you all have a good weekend, but better yet……..

    Have a GREAT day,

    Brad

  11. Morning Jan and Brad!
Gotta hurry up and do most of my work before noon today and then this afternoon help some very close relation move into a house three miles away. The last couple days we got all their stuff loaded up, they had lived twenty miles away in a new house, but somehow got it sold and are down sizing to the nicest little old house you could lay your eyes on, and at less then half the cost of the previous home. Glory! I haven’t helped any one move since moving Pastor Josh over a year ago, but this will be much simpler and closer.

Just keep on buying that good old equiptment Brad, nothing wrong with doing it all the way your doing it. I’m getting an itch to buy some smaller old stuff too, not for collecting but for survival in case things ever get tight with fuel around here. Because then the old 50 and the H will be used again, might be with something other than gas, but they can get the main jobs done! I still got an old #7 mower in the tree grove, worked good the last time I used it years ago. Might just pull that baby out and spruce er up a bit.

Those lessons speed up in a bit. Pretty soon they will just focus on a chapter or two, saves in the page flippin. I sure love those lessons. I hear the main pastor over aty Pillar of Truth is really in bad shape now, he and his wife are in our families prayer. They sure did set up a good ministry and reach allot of simple God loving folks and also folks that never heard of God.

So God Bless You both today and also any other readers! Take care!
